Adrian Peterson is entering his 14th season in the NFL and he has some high hopes on where he aims to finish amongst the all-time rushing leaders. Whenever the former Vikings running back decides to retire, he wants to be on top.
“Winning a championship is what I want most,” Peterson said on NFL Network according to ProFootballTalk.
Not only does he want a Super Bowl, but he wants to surpass the great Emmitt Smith in total rushing yards. Peterson currently sits at 14,216 rushing yards and would have to gain 4,140 yards to surpass Smith’s total of 18,355 yards.
“That’s one of the goals I set to myself when I entered the NFL was to pass the GOAT,” Peterson said. “I look forward to playing a couple more years, 3-4 more years, who knows, depending on how my body is feeling.”
It’s likely that Peterson would need to play at least four to five more seasons in order to break this record. Washington is going to have some sort of committee in their backfield, which hurts AP’s chances of getting to Smith’s record.
Peterson is 35 years old and in terms of running backs he is no spring chicken. However, during his time in Minnesota fans were able to see just how special of a player All-Day was. If there was ever a 35-year-old running back to break the all-time rushing record, Peterson would be the one capable of doing it.
