Brewers Slug Way To 7-3 Victory To Win Series Against Marlins

The Milwaukee Brewers were able to secure a series victory against the Miami Marlins on Sunday with a 7-3 victory as the offense slugged three home runs to support co-ace Brandon Woodruff.

The Brewers got out to an early lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Luis Urias that scored Willy Adames. Unfortunately, Adames injured his left ankle on the slide and would have to leave the game an inning later. The team confirmed he suffered a sprained ankle and that x-rays were negative.

Brandon Woodruff wasn't able to hold on to that early lead though as he ran into trouble in the second inning, allowing a 2 RBI single to former Brewers prospect Payton Henry and then he gave up a solo home run to Jorge Soler in the third inning.

Miami had a 3-1 lead, but Marlins starter Elieser Hernandez wasn't able to hold onto it. In the fifth, Jace Peterson led off the inning with a home run, and was immediately followed by Kolten Wong who went yard for back-to-back jacks. A few batters later, Rowdy Tellez dropped in an RBI single and Omar Narvaez followed suit. Milwaukee scored four in the inning to take a 5-3 lead.

Brandon Woodruff would complete five innings, allowing those three runs, although only one was earned, on five hits with six strikeouts.

The Brewers would add some more insurance runs as Rowdy Tellez slugged a solo home run in the 7th and then Luis Urias added an RBI single in the 8th.

Aaron Ashby came out of the bullpen to pitch the final four innings and he dominated, going four shutout innings, not allowing a hit or a walk and striking out eight.

Ashby earned the save, his first of the season, while Woodruff got the win, improving to 4-2. Elieser Hernandez took the loss for Miami and dropped to 2-3 on the season.

Next up, the Brewers are back at home for a series against the Braves starting on Monday. Ian Anderson (3-1, 4.20 ERA) will be on the mound for Atlanta while Freddy Peralta (2-1, 4.40 ERA) has the ball for the Crew.
